In this training event, we will start off indoors to learn the key identification features of the dragonflies and damselflies of the Purbeck Heaths NNR. In the afternoon, if the weather conditions permit, we will venture outdoors to some ponds to run through the methods we will use to survey for target species, in preparation for the recording season ahead.
The aim of the workshop is to increase confidence in identifying some of the target species that form the basis of the upcoming series of surveys for ponds across the Purbeck Heaths NNR Grazing Unit (Arne, Hartland, Slepe and Stoborough) which form part of the Purbeck Heaths Grazing Unit Monitoring Plan.
The training will focus on target species of Odonata (dragonflies & damselflies), pondweed leafhopper, raft spider, water vole, bladderworts and pillwort, and is ideal for Odonata/pond enthusiasts and those who are relatively new to wildlife recording and identification.
