As in previous years, the aquatic invertebrate survey group is running a couple of ID sessions over the winter to look at the samples we collected during the previous survey session. The purpose of these sessions is to identify all specimen in our samples, but also for you as volunteers to improve your ID skills for this group.

This our first session of the season, taking place at the RSPB Arne office.

This year (2025) we have sampled 10 ponds at Studland heath. During this first session, we will briefly repeat how to identify the main groups of aquatic invertebrates. After this we will start to look at the samples and make use of the different keys we have for dragonfly larvae, beetles, bugs and other groups. I am also happy to say that fresh water ecologist Robert Aquilina is joining us during this session to help us.

Coffee and tea will be available, but please bring your own lunch with you. There will be multiple microscopes available for you to work with, but if you prefer to bring your own, that is obviously no problem

I you are hoping to join this day, please sign up below as it is important for me to know how many participants there will be. If you have any questions about this event, please contact me as well via Jasper@purbeckecology.org.uk.
