Waxcap survey Purbeck Heaths NNR

Tomorrow I would like to meet up at 10.30 at the parking of Sunnyside Farm: https://w3w.co/northward.erupted.pranced. There we can discuss our options. We either survey the acid grassland fields behind Sunnyside farm (along the tramway). These fields haven’t been surveyed properly before, but as a result I don’t know how successful we will be in finding waxcaps. The alternative is that we go back to the Stoborough heath grassland we surveyed last week to provide you with an opportunity to improve your ID skills. At least we know there are a reasonable number of species out there. We can decide tomorrow morning.

This event is part of a series of waxcap surveys on the Purbeck Heaths NNR this Autumn. The areas we aim to survey in October – December are:

• Langton Wallis
• Newton Heath
• Stoborough Heath
• Scotland Farm
• Arne acid grassland  fields
• Harmony valley

The exact meeting location of this particular survey will still be made available, but will be on the Purbeck Heaths NNR.

Please take the following with you for the day:

• Your own lunch and drink
• Appropriate clothing and footwear
• A hand lens
• A pen and notebook (optional)
• Any fungi ID guides you have (some will be made available as well)

For this survey, we will spend a number of hours in the field, followed by an optional indoor session to further look at and identify our samples.
