Stag beetle survey

Email: trees@purbecks-preciouspast.org.uk

Come along to look for stag beetles and other summer evening wildlife.

We will walk from the car park area at Arne across Coombe Heath to the Salterns hide, along the boundary of Salterns Copse.  We will be looking for stag beetles but hopefully we will also get to see other evening wildlife along the way.  There have been glow worms in the overflow car park.

The route is approximately 2 miles.  We will set off at 8.30pm and stroll at a gentle pace, aiming to get to the edge of Salterns Copse for approximately 9.10pm.  We should be back to the car park area for 10.15pm at the latest.

Please wear sturdy footwear as although we will be walking along paths the ground is uneven, insect repellent might be advisable and please bring a torch.

It is weather dependent as the best conditions for surveying for stag beetles are when it is 12°C or above, with no or only a very light wind.

Please let me know if you would like to come along or if you would like more details.
