Fungi ID workshop

On Saturday the 2nd of November the Purbeck Natural History Forum (PNHF) will be organising a Fungi ID workshop in collaboration with the Dorset Environmental Record Centre (DERC). The main focus of this workshop will be on Waxcaps in the Purbeck area, but will also include other important fungi species present in this region. The workshop will be led by Bryan Edwards, ecologist of the DERC. Bryan has excellent knowledge of the fungi in this region and will also lead on additional fungi field training session and surveys (see separate events).
Fungi are important habitat indicators and the Purbeck area is home to wide range of fungi, including some rare and extraordinary species. The aim of this workshop is to increase participants’ field ID skills of this wonderful group and encourage everyone to go out recording. Following up this workshop, we will also ask participants to visit ‘hotspots’ of certain species in the Purbeck aera and record the species found. This can either be individually, or in small groups.
The location of this workshop is Corfe Castle Village hall. There will be a classroom based session in the morning followed by a field session in the afternoon. More specific information about the workshop will be sent out to all participants closer to date.
If you are interested to increase your local Fungi ID skills, and go out recording for this wonderful group of species, please register for this workshop below. Note that there are a limited number of spaces on this workshop.
If you have any questions about this event, please contact Jasper Iepema: jasper.iepema@naturalengland.org.uk.
